Information Yes, you can consume omega-3 during pregnancy. They are considered one of the most important nutritional supplements for pregnant women. Omega-3s are polyunsaturated fatty acids which are known for their role in the healthy and normal development of the fetus and the unborn child. They are also recognized for their positive effects on cardiovascular health and helps reduce the risk of premature childbirth. Omega-3s are mainly found in fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, herring and mackerel. It is recommended to eat two to three portions of fish per week during pregnancy. You can also get omega-3 from non-hydrogenated vegetable oils, flax seeds or nuts and certain enriched dairy products. Omega-3 supplements are also available in the form of capsules. Consult your doctor before taking supplements to make sure you are healthy and that you are not allergic to omega-3.
