Information
No, it is not recommended to eat aesculus hippocastanum (brown) during pregnancy. Although it can be used to treat certain urinary tract disorders, chestnut seeds and chestnut extracts are considered toxic. It can cause stomach aches, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, which can be dangerous for the mother and the fetus. Aescine and saponins it contains can also increase the risk of complications during pregnancy such as hypertension and premature work. Therefore, it is preferable to avoid consuming products containing extracts from chestnut trees during pregnancy.
All these recommendations are given as an indication based on ANSES information and cannot replace the advice of a health professional.
